House Music Concert Memorabilia
COLLECTION COLLECTIVE

ANGELA OLIVEIRA

PHASE ONE: context & initial research

· For week 1, I am researching the collection of my choice: CONCERT MEMORABILIA. At first, I was going to choose paper, but there wasn't much of an interactive factor to make it interesting, or so my professors thought. So, I've gone with a completely interactive collection. It's been changed a bit too, from concert tickets to now concert memorabilia and only from a certain slice of the music industry. Everyone goes to concerts and what more to elongate such an experience from one night to several weeks? I am fascinated by the idea of stretching the concert experience, from the production of concerts, backstage, VIP, photos, and the aesthetic of the tickets themselves. There is a lot going for this collection that will keep people interested. As the collection of concert tickets, I hope it to be helpful in categorization of tickets, buying tickets, comparing tickets, and the ticket/concert experience. Share photos from the concert, share experiences, share the thrill. I have some more ideas of what to include in this project as the following list shows. I'll be editing and adding to the list as the project develops.

electronic/dance music tickets
dubstep and electronic dance/house music
played at concerts and nightclubs

electronic dance music record labels:
ultra records
Ultra's current roster includes American artists Steve Smooth, Kaskade, Sharam, Wolfgang Gartner, Cedric Gervais, and international artists Chicane, Tiƫsto, Paul Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, The Young Punx, Benny Benassi, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Inna, Kraak & Smaak, Morcheeba, Fedde le Grand, Enur, Basshunter and others in North America. Ultra has featured releases from the aforementioned artists and many others such as The Crystal Method, Timo Maas, Sasha & John Digweed, 4 Strings, Panjabi MC, Despina Vandi, DeadMau5 and Junkie XL. Kaskade, MC Flipside, Rob Swire of Pendulum, Skrillex, and Steve Duda under the BSOD alias.

COLLECTION OF IMAGES: concert tickets +
· Gathering items and/or images: I have a few concert tickets at home that I will be acquiring to scan in, and I'll also ask a few friends to scan in their tickets. For now, here are a few images from the web as examples of the different aesthetic that concert tickets take on: (THESE IMAGES ARE A SAMPLE OF TICKETS THAT WILL BE EDITED TO FIT INTO COLLECTION OF HOUSE/ELECTRO MUSIC. THE FOLLOWING COLLECTION OF IMAGES ARE NOT OF HOUSE/ELECTRO MUSIC. THEIR CURRENT SOLE PURPOSE IS FOR AESTHETIC REASONS:

Also, concert images: (coming soon)

READING REFLECTIONS: response to readings
· Why do people collect? Well, I think in part because we have the ability to collect and naturally want to collect things since we are able to hold things in our hands. Income/money plays a part in collecting and can hinder collecting. My mother collects thimbles, I collected coins as did she. I started a few collections, sea shells of florida, coins, stamps, movie tickets, etc. mother collects thimbles as a small memorabilia of all the places she's visited. I did the same with coins and stamps. I've observed that most collections have other meanings then just to collect for pack-rat's sake.

· In Nothing's Lost, he is addicted to collecting "nothing", which makes him seem like a pointless collector and not even a true collector. He has no real meaning behind his collections at first, even the stamp collection. The collections even take a toll on his life.

"Collectors are defined by their collections." -William Davies King

"The creative organization of information creates new information."

"Think about the arrangement of information before making it complex."-Richard Saul Wurman in Information Anxiety.

BRAND AND PACKAGE THE COLLECTION DIGITALLY
concert fans, battle of the Bands. artist competition, brand promotion, fan discovery, music venues, etc

As far as naming and branding goes, I have not really decided on a name yet. I came up with a few catchy words though that may or may not add to my branding process;
minted
remix
system
massive
cluster
evolution
fresh
house
intersteller
matter

Basically what I want to do may or may not have these in:

MUSIC

> House
> Indie-Electro
> Minimal
> Mix
> Tech-House
> Techno

CONTACT page?
Most of the music info has been found on http://gottadancedirty.com/
I am not sure if I will include all subsections or may combine subsections together, ex, acid, deep, electro, indie, and tech-house could all be under house music.

LOL, so true: "In the event of a concert held at a stadium, if you can’t get golden circle then rather choose to be in the crowd on the ground instead of the stands. The atmosphere is awesome in the crowds, the tickets are cheaper and everyone has more fun. The stands were meant for old people who can’t jump around and scream like they used to. have fun. Road trip there, eats loads of junk and pee on the side of the road if you want to. Make it memorable - take pics like a Japanese tourist. Profess your groupie status to random people. Scream at the top of your lungs. Smile through all the blunders because having and making your own fun is how you truly rock at a concert.

Here is a reminder of the items you'll need for next class:
- Establish a blog to document thoughts and process (send us your link if you haven't already)
- Complete Readings 1 through 6, make notes on your blog
- Begin gathering items or images of the items that will be in your collection (50+)
- Write the back story/history of the collection and collector (place in collector persona document)
- Develop the collector persona and 3 user personae (see template below)
- Name the collection and sketch possible logotype/mark/type
- Determine the primary and secondary purpose of the collection (ex. business/fan site or community fan site with barter system, etc.)
